High Druids Blade

The High Druid's Blade (The Defenders of Shannara #1)Welcome back Mr. Brooks and good old fashion Shannara story.
While this is set the most current of Stories in this vast amount of books it was one of the ones I enjoyed.
Terry Brooks has a formula for his stories that works well, but this one seemed to change it up a bit, at least to me.
I enjoyed his tying on the last series of Books and opening up a future for at least a couple more.
I love the use of magic as he has it here.

A must read for Shannara fans!

FableHaven: Grip of the Shadow Plague

Grip of the Shadow Plague (Fablehaven, #3)This was a good read, especially when you consider it is the midway book in the series.
The action was never really boring. At one or two points it seemed very convenient for certain things to happen but it did not pull me out of the story.
The characters' were nice to visit again, which is always a plus in a multi book red.
This book also made me want to continue to the next.
As a stand alone read it could be done but I would recommend you read the other 2 first.
The magic system stayed intact as well as the main characters stayed true to what you know from the previous books.

Kngdom Keepers III

Not as good as the first 2 but I am invested in the books now.
I have been to WDW several times and I found several inaccurate things bother me.
Over all a good story even with the moments that it seemed to drag on.
It seemed to take forever to get to any real action. A lot of running around, hiding from people and the oh so ever lucky finding the correct answer when needed just in time.
If you like the characters from the first 2 books then read on, if it wasn't your cup of tea then skip.
One nagging question kept coming up...where are all the good characters? I mean I can't see Peter Pan or Merlin or Mr. Toad or even Mickey Himself sitting back and letting the evil ones have this much control unopposed

The Pagan Lord

Book 7 in the Saxon series from Bernard Cornwell, I waited along time for this one to come out and enjoyed the read.
Uhtred is one of my top 3 characters in all of the fiction world, and this adventure adds a bit more to his personae.
His hatred for the new religion of "the nailed god" as he calls it is as strong as ever.
My only problem with the book is that it seems to follow the pattern of the last 7.
Uhtred gets in trouble and goes off on his own "Viking ways" has a few fights, works to regain his birth place, then England gets in trouble and sends for their beloved Danish Warrior and he comes in to save the day.
Shield wall after shield wall, blood, death etc...and I love it. Cornwell is the master story teller of sword fights and battling shield walls.
This book leaves it open for another to follow which I will patiently wait for and devour as soon as it comes out.

A must read if you have read the other 6 (or at least 1 of them and liked it) It can be read on it's own since they are all pretty well self contained.

Bloodfire Quest

I really enjoy books by Terry Brooks. I love anything dealing with Shannara.

This is the second book in his latest trilogy that continues the Omsford's of Shannara.

I have to admit that this book fell into the stable template that Brooks uses quite a bit. It seems that the story line is the same as happened to characters in previous trilogies but I enjoyed it just the same.

Part of the problem and the joy (I know, mixed feelings) was the 4 different story lines he had going on through the book. It is a good middle story, picking up where the first left off and leaving me wanting to start the last book as soon as possible.

If you love Shannara then this is a must read, you will need to read the first book in order to enjoy it fully.

Joshua: Man of Faith

This was written by Elder Mark E Peterson of the 12.  It was part of a simple written set if books talking about different prophets in the scriptures.
While he repeats himself a lot, and seems to use whole sections of  scripture as filler, I still enjoy his books.

This one was not even half about Joshua the man but spent most the time talking about the land and people in it. While I learned a few things I found myself getting bored.

The Weapon's Master

This is a stand alone short story placed in the classic world of Shannara.
It features one of the best fiction hero's Garet Jax
It is hard to decide where in the line of stories this would be placed, but it is not important.
This gives a small glimpse into Garet Jax and his life, what people thought of him and then what he was to become.

A classic story line, girl in trouble form evil wizard, hero saves her only to not be able to have her...but done well.
I have to admit I enjoyed this one better than the last short story by Brooks.

If you loved Wishsong and the weapon's Master this is a must read
