This Time Together

This was a great book. It is a collection of memories and thoughts from Carol Burnet. I found myself smiling every few minutes.
No real knowledge to gain, except that life is good and there is always something to smile about.

The Legend of Sleeply Hollow

I had never read this story before. I have seen many cartoons, movies and such and know the story very well.

I found it really interesting that there is almost no dialog in the story.( I only remember 2 lines)

I also found it interesting that the style of writing is so different than anything written today. Very descriptive and full of telling a scene.
I did enjoy it and it will be fun to read aloud to my grand kids as they get older

The Hunger Games

This book came highly reccomend to me.
I have to admit that I approached it with some doubt but was pleasently surprised when I got hooked.

The premise, well part of the premise, has been done several times before but not quite like this.

I enjoyed the characters and the way the author got to the end.

While some say it is a bit brutal you can't help but wonder what if you were put in this postion.
And isn't that what a good book is supposed to do?

Counseling with our Councils

This is a classic for the LDS reader. If you ever wanted to know how all those extra meetings we sometimes have should go, this is the book for you.

I found it to be very enlightening. (I also found it interesting that it sounds a lot like the wording in the new handbook that I am also reading)

While some things may be different where you live, for me this book was a great read and helped me look at my meetings and how I approach them differently.

How to write Science Fiction and Fantasy

I have not read a lot of novels by this author but I know of his success. I first got this book many years ago when I thought of really tyring to write, and I did write winning a 3rd place and a honorable mention in the Utah state writing competition one year.         This book is a good one to get if you want to write in these fields. So much alike yet worlds apart. I truly do not think the average reader that is not into one of these genres really understands those of us who relish the time we spend. This book covers the basic of creating worlds, rules you need to create and follow and how to present different ideas.
I will be going back to this book from time to time as a reference as I start to write again.

Hood

I love anything Robin Hood(as well as King Arthur)
This take on the Robin Hood story was very confusing at first.
The author has set it in Wales and a different time period.
The Celtic names took a bit of getting used too.
As for story, I did enjoy it but do not plan on rushing out to get the second installment. I might add it to my Christmas list from my mom if in a pinch.

On Writing

I listened to this on my iPod. What a great invention an ipod is... This book was very insightful. Mr King said it best at the start of the book, when talking about books on writing that this book would be shorter than most since most books of that type are full of BS. I have read many of those books and I have to agree somewhat.

What I found most enjoyable was the stories of his high school years and other events that I could match up with stories he has written.

I have not read all of his stuff but enough to understand his craft. He still holds the honor of writing the only book that really scared me. Back in 1982, on a raining night in my small one bedroom apartment in the married student housing at the U of U. Sitting in my rocker reading "Salem's Lot".( I have yet to reread it.)

I really enjoyed this as an audio since Mr. King was the reader. He truly added something to the experience.

This book is a must read for even the slight Stephen King fan or budding writer.

Prophets Priesthood Keys and Succession

This is a great book for anyone who has ever wondered on how the choosing of the next President of the Church is done. It goes through the history of the Church since the time of Joseph Smith. I learned a few things I was not aware of before. A really good read.

Sharpe's Christmas

I have looked long and hard for a copy of this small book.
I have now read all the Sharpe stories...this one is simply 2 short stories that were originally written for a newspaper(I Think).

The art of the short story is lost on most of today's writers. Not so with with Cornwell.
Even if you did not know the history of Sharpe you would be able to enjoy these.
One of the most enjoyable parts was figuring where they fall in the whole cannon of the books.

House of Glory

This was a great listen. I enjoyed this so much that I think I now have to go buy the book so I can mark it up!

Brother Wilcox has such a great style and brings new light to looking at Temple work and the blessings it brings into our lives.

I highly recommend this one.

The Gift of the King's Jeweler

This is a small book (114 pages).
A work of fiction based on a passage from the Book of Mormon.

I found it a simple read. I did enjoy the authors thoughts of how to explain a event in the Book of Mormon using physical means to our understanding. I have not really thought of how the "Ball" was created or came into Lehi's tent but this author creatively gives a idea.

Very simple and enjoyable read.

Makes the writer in me start to think of other stories that might be out there.
